After the dust settled after the Cyclones one thing that came out of the response was the need for small STOL aircraft like the SuperPac / PAC 750 type aircraft www.aerospace.co.nz/ as a need to carry large amounts of supplies into Rural areas. The RNZAF should have a Squadron of these on hand for this type of response and do some real flying. Support local Aircraft built here. The cost would be minimal and provide huge capacity to the back country. As was the case this time locals were left to do it themselves and local operators were using there aircraft to do teh supplying which was great but shouldn,t be expected to do this when it could be done by RNZAF. In saying that the localk operators will step up anyhoo.

Ideal role for the terrritrial air force fulfilled utilising suitably qualified commercial pilots, engineers and general support team. Aircraft supplied by short term nationalisation process.

A bit of previous chatter on the subject "PAC Wants P-750 for RNZAF" here ( link)... In the meantime, perhaps a couple of these could be resurrected and put to good use... "Miles Aerovan NZ1751 at RNZAF Station Ohakea." Circa 1949 "Side view of Miles Aerovan NZ1751"

Imagine joining the Air Force and dreaming of zooming round in Vampires...then they say "Welcome to the squadron and you are flying (checks notes) the Aerovan".

Its probably more of a case for a rural airfield building program producing airfields capable of supporting larger aircraft & the army engineers acquiring an airfield construction capacity to ensure they are maintainable should be been need to be used for 12 months straight (the westland after the alpine fault going being the case to consider).
