As all the moulds have effectively been held to ransom by the French Administrators of Heller , there seems little prospect for this brand being saved this time . They peaked in popularity almost 40 years ago and since then various managements have tried to live off the companies past with little attempt to keep up or reinvent the company , as a result the brand has withered while other established and new companies continue to prosper . It is a shame but not unexpected .

It's the Humbrol side of the business that I am the most worried about.
I still use Humbrol paint and still love it.

I agree, humbrol is the main type of paint that I use.
Does that mean we wont be getting our canberras? That is a shame. I thought things were looking good, they had also planned a release of a Nimrod.

Yes the loss of Humbrol will impact deeply in the modelling world.
I wonder if anyone else remembers or realises that back in tyhe 1970's when Airfix was healthy, they allowed some of their moulds to come to NZ to be made by a company here under licence for distribution in this part of the world under their name. Later when they went bust in 1981 the NZ company Toltoys actually bought the rights to the Airfix moulds and continued to produce them under the Airfix name for our market. I have three or four 1/72nd kits that I bought in the late 1980's or early 1990's cheap, as old stock, which have the Airfix bandname as usual but with smallprint on the box stating made by Toltoys in Auckland, NZ. They are unbuilt and I see them as possible investment kits. Plus i won't build them as they're rubbish kist (2 x Westland Whirlwind, 1 x Helldiver). I also have some original unmade 1960s and 1970's kits put away (DHC Beaver, Old Bill Bus and Fire Engine).

News from the north!
Gossip going around here in the UK, and seemingly confirmed on national radio news, is that the Hornby group have bought [?] both Airfix and Humbrol.
Quite what the implications are for the various products is I cannot discern but will keep you posted. Next weekend at the IPMS Nationals in Telford will doubtless add considerable smoke to this fire, which I will report on my return.

Xtracolour are Hannants own brand , nothing to do with Humbrol or Airfix

News just to hand that the 'Airfix' has been relaunched at airfixwebsite@hornby.com. It seems as if Hornby are showing a greater commitment to maintaining Airfix than their previous owners did.

Pretty old news , the only thing new is the website. The Nimrod is due out in November, they are also doing Dr Who stuff and are reissuing the JB line of 1/72 vehicles , Landrovers and Bedfords etc .

The new website is certainly a lot better and easier to use. They need to extend their range of civil aircraft though.

I've been stocking up again on Humbrol paints here in Norway (was going to cost me $US800 to ship a shoe box full of my old Humbrols from NZ to Norway when I left).
Great thing is that at the local model shop as well as getting in new stock, they are getting in what must be some old stock from storage, so they have some discontinued shades available again, like the perfect PC10 shade, Humbrol 108.
Needless to say I'm as happy as a dog with two dongers!
