Planes crash at Waihī Beach airfieldSunLive 14 Aug, 2024 01:38 PM One person is injured after two light aircraft crashed at Waihī Beach. Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern shift manager Michael Anderson says it responded to an aircraft crash at Waihi Beach airfield. “We were notified at 1.11pm. It involves two light aircraft on the airfield. “At the peak of the incident, four fire trucks and one support vehicle from Mayor View and Waihī fire brigades attended the scene. ”Currently there are two trucks on site, and other resources have been stood down. ”The two trucks are there to ensure the area is safe.” At Hato Hone St John spokesman said one person is being taken to Tauranga Hospital by ambulance in a moderate condition. They said two ambulances and one rapid response vehicle were at the scene. No injury information was available. A SunLive reader at Surf Shack says that a plane has crashed into another plane on the ground at the Waihī airfield. “It has attempted to take off but hasn’t left the ground and run into another plane.” “Everybody is safe,” says the reader, who asked for their name not to be used. “The fire engine is on its way.” A resident of the area told the Bay of Plenty Times they had seen four or five fire trucks go by. Another said they saw two fire trucks leaving the area. That'll ruin your day... The journalist was obviously scratching for dramatic facts to report - I learned more about the movements of fire trucks and ambulances than I did the accident.

The Stuff headline is:
'Aircraft loses control, has collision during takeoff at Bay of Plenty airfield'
I don't believe aircraft (and cars and other vehicles) lose control, unless I suppose they are autonomous.

I have seen a photo now. An aircraft on a take-off run has seemingly veered off the strip and collided with a parked aircraft. Sad for the aircraft owners to need repairs on their aircraft but from the photo it looks pretty minor.

Aviation Safety Network (ASN) - link"A parked Van's RV-4 (ZK-RVV) was hit by a Tecnam P-2002 Sierra (ZK-LUX) as it tried to take off from Waihi Beach Airfield. The pilot of the other airplane was injured and was taken to a hospital."
