I just discovered in his logbook that notable New Zealand pilot Lt (A) Don Cameron, Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, flew Tiger Moth ZK-BFS during his flying training in 1941! Queenie started life as R4954 in the Royal Air Force and was based for most of WWII with No. 14 Elementary Flying Training School at RAF Elmdon, Birmingham. Most of the UK-trained FAA pilots started their flying training at RAF Elmdon, it became their designated ab initio training station. And Don Cameron learned to fly there, before he went on to become a very notable pilot later, as well as two-time prisoner of war and an escapee. He later became a noted topdressing pilot postwar. Legend Aviation owners Lucy Newell and Bevan Dewes are thrilled to know that there is a wartime Kiwi connection to their lovely Tiger Moth. I wonder how many other Kiwi logbooks Queenie appeared in.
