7.15pm update: Two people have been taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries after a light aircraft crashed in Tauranga.
“We received a call at 4.50pm to a light aircraft that had crashed at the Tauranga Airport,” said Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Josh Pennefather.
“We sent three fire trucks from the surrounding Tauranga stations. No one was trapped.”
A police spokesperson said police were alerted to a report of a light plane crash on Aerodrome Rd, Mount Maunganui at around 4.55pm.
“Two people received minor injuries and have been transported to hospital.”
“A small, two-seater aircraft has crashed at Tauranga Airport,” says a Tauranga Airport spokesperson.
“Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured.
“The crash has caused minor damage to the runway which is currently being repaired and expected to be operational this evening.
However, there may be some impact on flights this evening and tomorrow morning as a result of these vital works. We encourage you to keep an eye out for updates from Air New Zealand on flight times.”
Pennefather said Fenz has since left the incident with Tauranga Airport to manage.

Earlier, 5.05pm: Emergency services are responding to reports of a light aircraft crash at Tauranga Airport.
Fire and Emergency NZ report that the Mount Maunganui fire station is responding to the incident which was reported at 4.48pm.
“Police were alerted to a report of a light plane crash on Aerodrome Road, Mount Maunganui at around 4.55pm,” said a police spokesperson.
“Two people received minor injuries and have been transported to hospital.”
