Biplane finds new home at Geraldine museum

A piece of aviation history has reached new heights at a Geraldine Museum.

The 1929 Spartan biplane, once owned by South Canterbury farmer Syd Lister, has been shifted to a new location after hanging for 40 years in the same spot.

Lister, who gained his pilot’s licence in 1935, was a well known aviator and South Canterbury farmer who helped establish the South Canterbury Aero Club.

Now thats a rare machine. Hope the engine and fuel tank/oil tank were inhibited
