I am working my way through cataloging a recently acquired collection of aircraft slides. Two of them have me stumped. This one is a Cessna 207, marked as ZK-RAC the only three RACs I have listed are all gyrocopters and this 172, PWN - yet I dont have any such registration listed. These slides appear to date from around 1979. I assume that these aircarft actually ended up with other IDs - any suggestions?

It may appear that ZK-PWN was actually ZK-BWN as per the comments in this 2017 blog ( link). ( "If you invert the picture's colours back to a negative and lighten it you can clearly see the P was altered from a B. Also, it looks like BWN has been over-painted on the tail fin too."). And some further rego details here ( link)..
And ZK-RAC may have been ZK-ETC as per this blog ( link) and ( link)..

Thanks for that. It does seem to make sense.
I know that some years ago there were a few aircraft mooching around looking for patches of illegal vegitation, and in order to make retalitory action difficult they bore misleading registrations. That might explain BWN/PWN

Memory is a great thing (when you have it...)
I don't recall it at all but I see I was onto the BWN/PWN thing back in the day
I wonder if Rex Air Charter ("RAC") assumed that they were going to be allowed that rego then found that in fact they weren't?
Ironically I have both BWN and ETC in my logbook...
