Can anyone help with my Kiwi DC-6 project? I would like to know the following;
Anyone got a close up of the badge on the tail? Needed to be able to make one. Cockpit colour? You can't see much of the inside but a close approximation would do. As the 3 aircraft were DC-6s not C-118s am I right in thinking they did not have the rear fuselage cargo door? Finally whats the fairing on the lower nose?
Cheers
Nick

Yes you are quite correct...the DC6s were just transferred from TEAL to the RNZAF as far as i know with no alterations except markings etc..I do recall seeing them as a young fellow at whenuapai and mangere enginering (when opened)where engine changes were done etc. I can only remember the stanard fin flash on the tail...not sure?

The badge on the tail is the Auckland provincial coat of Arms. I have the artwork which I used to print the decals (on inkjet decal film) for my DC-6 if you need it. You are correct there are no rear cargo doors. The other thing to watch with an RNZAF DC-6 is that they did not have the radar equipped nose (as on the Heller Kitset) and a minor reprofiling may be necessary. The fairing under the nose is some form of ADF antenna, I have never seen a precise description of it. see www.rnzaf.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=Modelling&action=display&thread=1132791121PM me for the atwork details, they come as a word file.

The RNZAF DC6 had a weather radar in the nose Bruce, but not the 'radar' nose. That is an excellent model however, congratulations. It's exactly as I remember them.
Those aircraft, incidentally, were great to ride in! They were relatively quiet, and what engine noise there was was not unpleasant, quite comforting in fact!
I do recall an approach to a USAF Air Base in Charleston, South Carolina in somewhat murky conditions when there was a sudden application of power as we went round again. It seems we had been lined up on a motorway, and not the runway!
