It does not elaborate why this was being done. Was there a push to start farming tahr and chamois using the wild animals, as happened with deer? I do not recall ever hearing of tahr and chamois being farmed but that is the only reason I can think that they'd live capture them.

A method of capturing chamois and Himalayan thar alive from a helicopter and transporting them to holding pens has been perfected by two men and a pilot working In the high country of South Westland.
The helicopter, operated under licence by Winged Hunters, Ltd, and flown by Mr G. McNutt, is precisely manoeuvred close to the chamois or thar to be captured. Mr P. Harker and a professional North Island hunter then leap out and wrestle the animal to the ground. An adult male thar may weigh 3001 - Once subdued, the animals are put into a specially made I harness and airlifted back to abase.
