I don't think that I was aware of this early plan to cross the Tasman Sea by Lt. John Moncrieff, from the New Zealand Herald, 13 November 1925:
FLIGHT FROM AUSTRALIA.
ENTERPRISING PROPOSAL.
TWO YOUNG NEW ZEALANDERS
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Thursday
Two young New Zealanders, Lieutenant J. R. Moncrieff and Mr. Victor Carmine, are endeavouring to arrange a flight by aeroplane from Australia to New Zealand.
Flight-Lieutenant Moncrieff is of the New Zealand Air Force and saw service with the Royal Air Force during the war in England and France.
Mr. Carmine intends to accompany him as wireless operator. Mr. Carmine had a meritorious war career, and is a world's long-distance wireless record holder.
The machine proposed to be used is equipped with two Napier 450-h.p. engines and is a four-seater open sea reconnaissance type.
