Another Airfix F.27, modified with a radar nose. This time to represent one of the RNZAF NATTS Friendships acquired from Air New Zealand. The subject aircraft '81 was formerly ZK-BXB. The aircraft had several deleted windows down the starboard side, a few more blade antennas and what appears to be a retro-fitted hatch and fairing in the lower fuselage. The aircraft also has some bubble windows (2nd to last window on each side) in the rear cabin. The wing tanks have been stolen from the Italeri Fokker F.27 Maritime kit Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr Funnily enough I built 'BXB from the Airfix kit previously, it makes an interesting contrast Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr

Absolutely brilliant, Harry!
I really like all three of them, but the RNZAF F-27 is super special. They had such a nice colour scheme.

Great model of '81. Flew to Singapore and back on that one, as well as Advanced Nav Trainer to Aussie. Before we left for Singapore, ANZ had to do an overnight engine change, crew test flew in morning and we left 30 minutes late! Quite a 24 hours.

BTW - the fairing and hatch underneath is the Doppler antenna.

Well done, great job. As an ATC cadet I flew in them a number of times. Great trips and memories.

Brilliant work! Do you know what other kit wheels would be a good replacement for the Airfix mainwheels apart from the Italeri ones? I have a couple of Airfix F27s and I'm looking to replace the kit mainwheels. I think the Airfix ones depict the earlier types of wheels that were on the first production F27s?

I’ve used a set of Mach2 Convair mains for the mk500 model, otherwise I’ve used the Airfix which probably aren’t ideal Apparently the Shorts 330 or 360 shared the same tyres
