I have an unknown fighter/bomber base map in the pacific. Without publishing the map, does anyone recognise it from the following information:
The runway direction is given as 75 degrees W magnetic. The following units either served on or were intended to, VMF-112, VSMB-132, 15th NBC, 76th GA. It is located by the sea in an area called Pete? (? this bit is cut off). Laperouse Island is located in the Bay. Makaka? River and Boudume River flow near the airfield. The main road within it appears to be called US1.
Anyone know where this is?

VMF-112 & VSMB-132 were prominent in the Solomons early in the campaign. If the runway designator is 075/255 that could almost be Munda but the Island/Rivers don’t match.

With the assistance of chinapilot, the location has been identified as Turtle Bay on the island of Espiritu Santo.
Also known as Fighter Field #1.
The Peter? stood for Petersen's Planation on the map.
The connection with the RNZAF is that 30 Sqn once operated from this location.
Dave are you interested in having the map details?
