dug out my first ever model the other day, to compare with my latest A-4. 1:72 Airfix Spitfire Mk1, originally built 1982, repainted 1987 or so..... I built up another example of the same kit in 1993. Spot the difference ;D

I never have had the heart to throw out my original models either, and they're on a par with your '82 Spitfire. My first kit was an Airfix Hawker Hurricane Mk1, one of the kits that came with its own paint etc.

My first kitset was a 1/144th scale Bandai Mitsubishi Zero. I built it with my Dad and still have vivid memories of that event though i must have only been about 6. I still have it somewhere.

Sam, I like the first attempt much more: it's far more artistic, and shows an aptitude for designing future tail-less fighter aircraft! ;D

My first kit ever was the Revel 1/72 Macchi 200 in 1973. I revisited the small scale Saetta with a conversion of the new Special Hobby kit and painted it as per the original Revell kit, albeit with my own custom made (i.e. corrected) decals. Result was posted here some time earlier though I long ago lost the original (and it was painted red, black and blue - the only three bottles of Pactra I was given with the kit at the age of 5). Result was also posted to ARC here: www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal6/5001-5100/gal5068_Macchi-C200_Sargent/gal5068.htmI also have plans to redo the Revell 1/72 Hawk 75 (kit 2) and Morane Saulnier Type N (kit 3) in the same manner some time.

It's called the graveyard (ie spares box) ;D albeit only the cruddiest ones but they're few and far between now.
