Great news! Thanks for that. I was wondering how I was going to get around that tank, as it is noticably smaller than the 300gal ones. Kiwi Red and other display machines seem to have used that tank also.
Cheers

Kiwi Red and other display machines seem to have used that tank also. Yes the 150 gal tank was used as the smoke tank on the centreline (minus the fins).

Received mine today. They are good and bad in a couple of respects, the bad all minor: Casting is pretty good, but the surface is a little rough in places and needs some tidy up. Each is two parts the fin group/tail cone, and the main body.
Shape and size seems to be pretty good from the limited info I have found. The tail group assembly is a copy of the Hasegawa kit parts. While the main body is well done, the tail section is a little oval in cross section making it the correct width but about 1.5 - 2mm too high which will mean some serious sanding to fit to the main body.
Overall, a quick way to do the body, but I think I'll use a set of kit fins and fit them to the resin body. There are no filler caps or hatch points on the bodies, with a pair of circuferential panel lines being the only detail on those parts.

Hey, thanks for the quick run down on them!
Did our ones use the fins at all? Its just that I thought the only time they were used was on the c/l station without fins as per what Don mentioned.
Anyway.........expert I am not and am probably wrong. If so you may need not worry about mucking about with the fins
Cheers

Hey, thanks for the quick run down on them! Did our ones use the fins at all? Its just that I thought the only time they were used was on the c/l station without fins as per what Don mentioned. NZ6256 the Gold Skyhawk used fined 150 gal tanks on STA's 2 & 4 as did the Kiwi Red lead TA-4 in late 1989/early 1990. After the mid air in 1989 Kiwi Red was short of airframes so had to use a TA-4 as the lead. To give enough endurance it was fitted with 150 gal tanks on STA's 2 & 4 and a buddy store on Sta 3 for the plugged barrel roll (was also filled with diesel to make the smoke).

That's why I bought mine. Was hoping to have a 1/48 B&H Special done for the Nats in Wellington, but have received a big commission cheque to do a 1/48 Harrier, so will push that to the top of the pile instead. Skyhawk MAY still make it.

Pure luck with a bit of sheer coincidence thrown in for good measure. USMC AV-8B Av tech just back from Iraq saw my 1/48 Harrier on ARC, was impressed, asked how much to make him one. I gave him a ballpark figure, he said it sounded reasonable, and it all went from there. Have the first advance payment already. It's a lot of fun building something you enjoy, with someone with first hand knowledge and a reasonable budget to do it with.
