Not the most expensive I've seen the Blunty for, especially for one in the original '70s box showing the 14sqn version (even if we never used those rockets and wouldn't release them at that altitude/attitude). I thought the prices for the both Buffalos were a bit steep.
I guess it's the difference between people who buy kits to keep them as unbuilt collectors items, and those that actually want to build them.
I've got a couple of old matchbox kits that I've managed to buy over the years, mostly as they hold certain sentimental value for being some of the earliest models I built with my dad. I have the later boxing of the Blunty, an original '70s Hawker Fury and the Lysander. I still only paid about $8-$10 (nz) for them.
I do intend on building them all....one day.
There was a job lot of Matchbox kits on TM a little while ago that included 5(!) Strikemasters in the '70s boxing, a couple of Hawk T Mk1, 4 or 5 Gnats, 4 mirages and a few others. I think they went for $125 or so in the end. It was probably worth it just for the strikemasters. They looked like old inventory, my guess is left over stock from a shop that probably closed in the '80s, and had now become part of an estate. There were various other big lots of different types for sale by the same seller, all ahd the same price stickers on them.

The old and rare kits market is a fickle one - believe me, I know! some sellers are expecting massive prices for what in practical terms are crap kits, but base everything on the rarity value. I guess I have paid quite a lot for rare kits over the years - the most expensive being my KMC 1/72 scale Boeing 727 at $130.00 US. The bit I find very weird are those who advertise the EMPTY model boxes for sale...

Agreed, but you have to be careful about that too.
There was a guy selling empty nikon camera equimpent boxes on ebay, not at all clearly worded listings, and for prices that would lead you to expect that they were boxed items, not merely empty boxes!
A few people were caught out, and a I think he was eventually charged for mail fraud by US authorities. I've read about similar situations with model kits, there were a lot of posts on one of the forums (hyperscale?) about two years ago where a guy was selling emtpy model boxes with vaguely worded listings, and people being rightly pissed to get an empty box in the post.
