Hey Guys Well I just ate humble pie today while cleaning my dear AMX aibrush. I discovered the nozzle comes off and you can actually see straight through it. I was to discover a big wad of crap (paint & fur from pipe cleaner : right in the ducting. I now know why my brush wasn't spraying so well (slaps self making seal sounds). I've had this beaut since July 2006 and it's the best investment ever made apart from the whisper quiet compresser that accompanies it. My current project is the Academy 1/72 Hawker Tempest with Evan. D Mackie's markings I'll post a pic when it's done in another thread below in reply.

It is really surprising how much crap builds up inside paint guns. I'm not too familiar with airbrushes, but I have a collection of various paint guns purchased to paint my full - sized aeroplane. The other day I had to clean out the big pressure pot rig before I painted the fuselage. I had made a critical error with this sort of aparatus - never lend these out to anyone. The pressure pot has an 8 litre pressure vessel which when air is introduced, feed the paint to a relatively conventional spray handpiece by way of a 4 metre hose. I had brought this kit brand new specifically for the aeroplane, but before I had need of it, my mate borrowed it to paint his, he also painted a fence or two and a few other things, running variety of different paints through it. At some stage the paint delivery hose burst and he replaced this with a length of garden hose. Hes not the tidiest of people, and it appears that the cleaning after use was fairly superficial. it also looks as if the feed pressure was set too high because paint was forced into all sorts of places on the handpiece that only air is supposed to go!. House paint also reacts with industrial solvents, and sort of turns into a rubbery goo, so I spent nearly whole day cleaning this crud out, and replacing the hose before I started painting. Certainly I would heartily recommend dismantling and thouroughly clening all your paint gear (even airbrushes) after each job - this is the voice of bitter experience

Henc why I do all spraying when my friend is around. I let him use my airbrush once and he had "cleaned it". Next I went to use it I did a strip of the parts and found paint still lining many of them. This to me was no surprise as he was a novice and not really one who takes pride in his gear (or life for that matter ). Thankfully my a/b is chrome so easy to clean. At least his heart was there, but am I selfish or richeous.....yep. I just like to see my gears taken care of!

The lesson here is that if you have nice equipment of any sort, don't let anyone see it - they'll only want to borrow it later!
