In "Eastern Approaches", Fitzroy Maclean speaks of "a cheerful young New Zealander" attempting to pilot a stripped-out Baltimore into German-occupied Yugoslavia from Bari to bring out a delegation of Partisans. It was an RAF operation but escorted by 82nd USAF Fighter Group Lightnings. Has anyone heard who that NZ pilot was? Date seems about winter 1944.
