Not having built a plane model since the 1960's but after a couple of hundred racing car kits I received a Kiwi Resin Miles Hawke kit for Christmas. Fabulous but it took me back 30 odd years to the first of the resin car kits - pin holes, air bubbles, indistinct panel lines/hatches etc and ill fitting parts. However I'm loving it as it requires building and on the strength of it I've purchased a couple more of the Kiwi Resin kits.
However my question as I'm now ready for the painting stage - what colour(s) would the cockpit area be, or what would be the most appropriate colours likely to be for an aircraft from that era? I have a photo of one restored plane that shows the instrument panel in dark olive green which looks nice but there is insufficient light to show anything more.
I appreciate any assistance here.
Cheers

A lot of the Wooden British aircraft or the era used a light - medium green. The colour was standard on Tiger Moths etc. It is a "clenaer" green than olive green, slightly bluer and lighter than zinc chromate metal primer. Some of the other guys may have Humbrol matches, but Tamiya "Flat green" with a dash of white gloss works pretty well - the finish should be satin in most cases. Miles of course may be a bit different - see if anyone else has any suggestions.

Hi Dave, probably easiest if you just forward the photos to mn. And it's a Hawk - no 'e'.

mn, I have not yet sent the photos as my computer mouse has decided to play up, and won't work on the PC I have them on. I need to get a new mouse. Keep reminding me about the photos till I get them sorted (unless James decides to email them directly).

And heres one I finished earlier this week after being on the go for over two years. The first resin kit I have built although I have a 'few' waiting in the wings. There were a some issues to deal with along the way which I found discouraging rather than difficult to over come. I do not rate it as one of my better models but am pleased enough with it. It is finished as the aircraft 'Mac' McGregor and H. C. Walker flew in the 1934 McRobertson air race from London to Melbourne. Thank you to Dave Lochead and Kiwiresins for the kit.

MN, are you still out there? Yes. Selling the house (twice because the first sale fell over) then moving, packing away 30 yrs of modelling, stuff in storage, purchasing a new house and finally starting to unpack the collection again, with huge trepidation! Probably another month before I'm in a position to start building again.
