I've just noticed in a photo on 'airliners.net' that two RAN Squirrels performing at the VP Day celebrations in Canberra on 14th and 15th August had decals of Cookie Monster and Barney applied to the engine covers just below the rotor head. The photo is: www.airliners.net/open.file/913509/L/Calum, do you know anything about these decals, and whether any other RAN Squirrels have similar characters applied? I think they look pretty cool.

Yeah they have been around for a while. The are actually painted on. A lot of the 723 Sqn Squirrels have bits of art in that postion, Barney has been there for 2 or 3 years and is looking tired. The last one I saw done was a Pelican Here's Barney in 2002

That's cool. It reminds me of the RAF AEW Shackletons each of which was named after a character from 'Magic roundabout' (70's/80's British claymation/puppet kids TV show. Remember watching it when very young, stuffed if I know what it was about!).

When the RAAF disposed of the Falcon 900s some Simpsons characters were painted on the sides of the aircraft by HDH personnel prior to their departure (after RAAF markings had been removed). There distination was of course...... Springfield IL!
