Was taxpayers money wasted on this, or was the money raised via public donation?
The Cloak of Peace.
The 2.5-metre sculpture, commissioned by the Peace Foundation and made in Dannevirke, will be officially unveiled next month in Nagasaki, one of two Japanese cities destroyed by atomic bombs during World War II.
A gift of friendship, The Cloak of Peace Te Korowai Rangimarie will be presented by Disarmament Minister Phil Goff at a ceremony in Nagasaki Peace Park on October 21.
A poem by Jenny Bornholdt is inscribed on the "collar" in English, Maori and Japanese.
The total cost of making and shipping the sculpture to Japan is $85,000.
