Nice indeed. But of a grubby looking city though. All that smog.

We have had a lunchtime display yesterday and today over the city, promoting the airshow. Bit hard to concentrate on work. That's my office under the printer icon in the second pic, and nextdoor to the bordello! Immediately below the F/A18 is the section of the Yarra that was the venue for the Moomba Birdman Rally last week. Peninsula Aero Club sponsored 2 entries, and the eventual winner. The one I was a helper with (team psychiatrist/catering officer/pusher-offerer) sure made a big splash, and an impressive(!) 6m plummet. A Qantas 747 did a low fly past over the GP on Sunday. Flushed out the usual panic merchants who thought it was terrorists, about to crash etc., and 'why weren't we warned'. BTW. Check the weapon load on the Hornet.......a bit lop-sided?

We don't get smog Dave. Possibly volcanic ash from over your way. But it sure is dry at the mo!

I thought I'd get a bite. It just looks a little hazy for an Aussie scene, which are normally so clear. Is it dusty? By the way, not much volcanic dust around, it's all steam.

Think the pics were taken yesterday around lunchtime, and ithere was still some mist around. Could be a problem with dust at Avalon. Forecasting 30c+ on one of the days, and the countryside is as dry as the tip of a dead dingo's XXXX. Although organising an airshow generally brings rain. We can but hope. BTW. Great news story tonight, and unrelated to aviation. Reports of an epidemic of gastro at a Melbourne Water Corporation site, one of our major water suppliers. Turns out that a plumber had connected recycled water (read treated sewage) to a tap used for drinking!

The XXXX refers to a part of the dingo's anatomy Dave.

XXXX is only suitable for dingos.

Maybe some of it fell off? I think they use XXXX to poison dingoes in certain parts of the countryside. Fourex is nearly as bad as Lion Red! ;D

Isn't XXXX made from a part of the dingo's anatomy?

Or a bi-product thereof.

I take it, that is the MCG in the background. Never been to Melbourne. Doesn't look like many car parks, unless they are all underground, or is that browny curve not railway tracks which I was thinking and they are infact car park spaces. yes, another 15 hour day at work, brain is fading

That is the MCG, with the Jolimont rail yards. Car parking for the sports precinct is in the surrounding parkland and beside Rod Laver Tennis Arena which is under the Hornet's port wing. Just out of view is the Vodaphone stadium, the Glasshouse (1956 Olympics swimming stadium, now basketball/concerts) and Olympic Park (Soccer/ARL) The 'G' is walking distance from the CBD, and is handy to 2 railway stations, trams and bus services. It is the home of Aussie Rules which is the number 1 football code in Australia/the world, by a country mile(it's the football game where all players actually kick the ball with their feet, rather than throw it at each other!) The other major sports stadium in Melbourne at the western end of the CBD is Telstra Dome. If you think there is an emphasis on sport in this town you are right. Since January we have had the Australian Open tennis (one of the 4 grand slam titles), The Ashes and One Day Cricket, Australian Grand Prix, the FINA world swimmimg championships are currently in progress, as is Avalon air show. BTW.Late start to the display at Avalon today due to a dust storm.......currently 36c with a 40 knot northerly. Also travel to Avalon for tonights show will be difficult for those in the south and eastern suburbs as the Burnley tunnel which links some of the freeways under the city is closed due to a major accident. But weather looking good for Sunday.
