A pair of RAAF F-111s will fly into Temora for the Temora Aviation Museum's flying days on 19/20th May. Apparently this will be the first time that an F-111 has actually landed to a full stop on the field. I have seen one do a "touch and go". The 2,000 metre 05/23 main runway must be long enough for a lightly-laden F-111. The Sydney Morning Herald will flying in a Rex DC-3 load of "Column Eighters" for a weekend of country hospitality.

NAS Nowra at 2,000m + or - [2094 & 2046m] has had F-111s visiting for one reason or another over the years.

Didn't RANAS Nowra have arrestor gear though? I was led to believe there is a requirement for F-111 ops to have wires in place.

Yes - I don't think the arrestor gear has been removed because it can be used by the 'hookers'. :-) I don't have access to up-to-date charts but it was there a few years ago according to charts. After the earlier comment was written I remembered that there was some information at the Temora website that perhaps the runway was recently improved with the help of the local council. Perhaps that did the trick? www.aviationmuseum.com.au/news/News.cfmLook for the news item down the page "14 Sep ยด06 | 5TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS & NEW RUNWAY OPENING" "The 5th anniversary celebrations will be marked by the opening of the 05/23 runway, which was a joint project between the Museum, the Temora Shire Council and the Federal Government Regional Solutions Program" Different decisions are made according to requirements about how aircraft should operate. Perhaps there has been a change in F-111 operating requirements? Dunno. Phil.
