Quick question for those in the know (as I'm hoping to drag the family down from Auckland for the day), what time do things kick off for the Armistice Day celebrations on Sunday?
Cheers, Stu.

I too would be keen to hear some info on the days events as a search on Google seemed to bring up a lot of previous years stuff. We are leaving early Saturday morning for a family birthday celebration in Whakatane and will be going on to Rotorua. We will pass through Cambridge on Sunday on our way home and hopefully catch the celebrations or at least some of them. (That is the plan at this stage unless something changes it)
I will be taping the opening of the new NZ Memorial unveiling in Hyde Park London while I am away. Some others may want to do the same? It is being repeated at 10:00 am on TV1 Sunday morning too.

Hi guys,
Damn, I missed you both Colin and Stu (and amazingly I didn't see you there either Bruce! Usually our paths meet at Armistice...)
I heard from David Aitchison that Colin was coming but never caught up, sorry. If anyone is wondering, I was one of the professional filmmakers running around like a proverbial fly getting footage for the Official Armistice in Cambridge DVD that we are making. You guys may have seen me in the battlefield with the troops. I was the one with the big camera - sorry if I spoiled your photos...
When I say "professional filmmaker", not really yet but headed that way. After the 'success' of one music video for a great band who have now split up, and the Tauranga Sport Avex DVD - which I don't think anyone has bothered to buy... :-( this Armistice DVD will be our third proper film project for 'Old Crow Productions'.
We're a group of three, myself and my best mates Mike Cater (who some of you have met) and Iain O'Donnell. After much study and practice at university, the three of us now have a new edit suite and the whizzy-do brand spanking new Canon XL2 camera which I personally love. I love my Mum even more for buying it to help us get started on the right foot... It's a professional piece of kit and lovely to use.
We actually filmed Armistice last year, Mike and I, but never used the footage, so with the six hours of footage we took with two cameras this year, and the two hours from last year (1 camera) we have a great basis to edit together a stonkingly good DVD.
Plus everyone I talked to and interviewed for the film on the weekend were really enthusiastic about it and said they'd buy it. That in itself is promising, and I really think it'll be a better success than the Tauranga airshow which Mike and I did where all the odds seemed against us on that project. It was only through the great support from Bruce Cooke that got us through to the end of that job, but knowing that it hasn't sold well is still disheartening after all the months of work we put in. And considering all the problems I think we produced a good watchable film in the end.
Anyway, the Armistice DVD will feature scenes from both 2005 and 2006, in a highlights package including: - Victory Dance (2006) - Vehicle Parade (2006) - Commemoration Service highlights (2006) - The Alpha Street tank and tracked vehicle rally (2005) - The Battle of Alpha Street (2005) - The Vietnam Battle (2005 - I missed it this year sadly) - Catalina (2005) - Harvards (2006) - WWII Battle (2006) - Battle of Le Quesnoy (2005 and 2006) - Interviews with participants, and much more
I envisage it'll be a few months in the cutting together. I've not used our new edit suite program and have to learn it (PremierPro - meant to be much better than the Final Cut Pro I learned on).
I hope to get the film out into shops locally and via the clubs (re-enactors, vehicle collectors, etc) by the early New Year. Definately by ANZAC Day but hopefully before. So if anyone is interested, let me know and I'll add you to the mailing list for updates on the project.

Excellent news Dave, sounds like a great start to the production business - all the best with it. Unfortunately I was a bit tied up with various things over the weekend, but did go and sit on the front porch to watch the Harvards at Lunchtime. they actually looked suprisingly good from that vantage point. It appears they align the display over the river to avoid overflying built up areas at unsafe altitudes. unfortunately the grey sky wasnt the best, but they still looked and sounded great.

I was really impressed with the Harvards, it was a very good display in gusty conditions. They're excellent pilots and their efforts to entertain and educate the crowd were much appreciated.
Indeed they do seem to stick to the river which is sensible. A few years ago when the team (actually the Roaring Forties back then) displayed a lot closer and I for one was very nervous about the whole thing, despite knowing they were very professional and the weather was better that day.
Sadly this year's Armistice was down in numbers of military vehicles due to circumstances but the re-enactors were superb as usual, and the dance was great too, etc with the superb Hamilton Big Band (who only play four gigs per year, this their biggest).

Damn, I missed you both Colin and Stu (and amazingly I didn't see you there either Bruce! Usually our paths meet at Armistice...) Hi Dave, unfortunately I was unable to make it down for the day (insert loud grumbling noises ). Good luck with the DVD project, if you need a hand with the audio mix or such-like from a jaded old 20 year veteran of TV sound feel free to give me a yell and I'll see what I can do Cheers, Stu.

Great photos Dave.
Unfortunately the best plans sometimes run out of time and I was unable to get to Cambridge in time for the festivities/events on Sunday. Next year will be a must and won't have any family commitments to interupt it hopefully. The DVD sounds good keep me posted.

Great photos, Dave - thanks to your sister too, for tagging along to take some pictures.
Looks like a fantastic event, which I imagine must also be a good little money spinner for the town.

I had one sister on the stills camera and another on one of the video cameras. Both enjoyed the day. Usually they only pop down for half an hour for a look, but this time they were there all day.
