Will Don Brash's resignation help National in the next election at all? Christ knows anything would surely be better than Herr Clark ruining, sorry, running the country?

Brash was never comfortable in the political spotlight - too many embarrasing moments. John Keys should be a good replacement. Fingers crossed for a change of Gov't in the near future as well!

Brash did seem a little too Uncle Arthur at times, didn't he? I used to think that someone like Lockwood Smith might make a good leader, but now I'm not so sure. He might have too many skeletons in his closet, too? ;D

Uncle Arthur description..not bad...John Key looks likely to be the next PM given labour would have spent 9 years in office by that time. From a military view I am concerned at his lack of support for a joint military/civil whenuapai...we wait and see..

I don't even know who this John Key bloke is - I'll have to look him up on the internet. I've lost contact with NZ politics in a big way - geez, when I left NZ the big political players were Geoffrey Palmer, Ruth Richardson, Mike Moore and Jim Bolger!

John Key is the man...cometh the moment etc...he's a State House boy, but a self-made multi millionaire and one very smart cookie. National won't win with anyone else at the helm.

They should be whisking mr Keys off to Blenhein now and taking him for a ride in a Skyhawk to show him what they can be used for so we get our view over to him right from the start.

Brash resigning is a dumb move, Labours many attempts at causing him problems (making mountains out of molehill gaffs) to try and unseat him show one thing.............they are afraid of him, because surely if he was such an inept leader, they would want to keep him there. On a side note, I had the distinct displeasure of having to do a job at Massey University in Albany where Nikki Hager was they guest speaker on the morning that the towers came down (12/9), after he had given his speech (the evils of big business, the military industrial complex, conspiracy, conspiracy, blah, blah) the floor was opened for questions, someone asked him what he thought about what had happened a few short hours ago and his reply was............... "The Americans deserved what happened this morning, they bought it all upon themselves.........etc" He then proceeded to lambast the Americans "evil" ways and espouse why it was all their own fault. I very, very nearly killed the mics and recording gear and walked out, unfortunately my "professionalism" stopped me, I still sort of feel I should have walked, other people did though and others just sat there looking shocked. I for one will not be buying his book. One other little aside, I was at the Bretherens news conference before the last election (in a technical capacity, I am not Bretheren, just odd ). And one of the things that they told the gathered media pack that was never reported (not that I saw anyway, and I was looking 'cause I thought it was a major revelation) is that they met with the leader or senior representitive of EVERY POLITICAL PARTY (except Labour) prior to the campaigning not just National.

Well no doubt Helen with have the muck-rakers hard at work right now to dig the dirt on the possible future National leader.
Wait for the news headline - "Keys Bunked School For a Day in 1980!" ;D

I have just heard this news. What happened to make him resign?
Personnally I don't like any politicians, from any party, and have no sway of allegiance to any of the bunches of annoying upstarts. But I have to say that with all the rubbish Labour and the media have tried to heap on Brash to make him look bad, my opinion is he has handled himself admirably and has always come off better in the end than the scandalous dealings of Clark, Benson-Pope, Tutai Phillip Field and all the criminals in Labour's camp.
A lot of people didn't like Brash and didn't want him as party leader or PM. Sure, fair enough, but look at their track record of recent note - Bill "frontal labotomy" English; Jenny Shipley, Jim Bolger, oh dear.
And this Key fellow, I don't trust too many people who started with nothing and become multi-millionaires, than politicians. You know they've usually screwed a lot of people over on the way.
I think since the Muldoon era, the only man who ever looked like he'd make a great National leader and PM was Doug Graham, but alas he quit politics. He's one of the few politicans I had respect for. When a white man can run the Ministry of Maori Affiars without complaint you know he's a good man.

Pretty sure as part of the sale directive, they have to keep one in a serviciable condition for demonstration purposes. And also a qualified pilot., not all of them ran

I believe those demonstration flights for the selected A-4 stopped some time ago Beagle. The Maachis are all flown regularly though.
