Just reading a book called 747 which is by Joe Stutter who was the cheif designer of the 747. The book is by Smithsonian books which I guess is attached to the Smithsonian museum. It is a very easy read and not technical at all. Very interesting to see how the coolest jet transport (on a par with concorde) was made.......really recomend it, a nice easy and relaxing read

Also have you read this one? It's a bit more technical but easy enough to read, very detailed historically, and describes the development trials of designing and building the 747. You will be amazed how much we owe the Germans for their swept wing jet designs, and to the Russians for titanium technologies. The book you have above mentions parts of Clive Irving's Widebody, so it interesting to read both.
