Just a quick plea for aviation buffs, kiwi travellers, and patriots alike to visit this website: www.fixourplanesathome.comIt is concerned with the Air NZ proposal to send heavy maintenance overseas, and details a number of valid points that you won't find in the newspaper, or Air NZ press release! Please also sign the petition to Dr Cullen, and feel free to print off the A4 flyers for your work/ school/ gym/ church/ noticeboards. And of course- pass on the website address to your friends, family, and workmates. (Thanks, from all of the workers at Air NZ!).

I sincerely hope that the engineers win this one. For far too long ANZES was used as the fatted calf of Air New Zealand, and now that senior management has had their fill they're going to feed what's left to the dogs.
Let's see if Helen's interested in really saving jobs in NZ, or if she'd rather sell out to China?

Good luck to you Bear and all your workmates.
I have signed the petition. I fear it may not be of much help. Labour has sold the country to China already and seems to relish our jobs going offshore while offshore comes onshore!
If this sacking and closures go ahead, I won't use Air New Zealand again, that's for sure. Not just the principle, but the safety issues with Chinese maintenance.
I was discussing this today with a mate in the RNZAF and he mentioned that if the Chinese companies were unsafe they'd not get contracts from Boeing to get clearance to do such maintenance. It's a fair point in theory but I see that country as totally corrupt, where there's more fake produce than genuine licenced material, and they're all paying each other backhanders. That's how they do business from what I have seen. I simply do not trust it as safe as if it were done by Air New Zealand.
Why can Air NZ not do it as cheaply as China? Maybe because they use genuine parts?
