Mangere's Auckland International Airport is 40 years old! www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU0601/S00205.htmSomething I've been meaning to ask, at least 15 years ago they announced a second runway system was to be developed on the opposite side of the terminal from the runway now, and cars would have to drive under it to get to the terminal. An architects model was on display on the third floor by the viewing deck in their history section for some years. Does AIA still intend to build this second runway though? I've heard nothing since about work starting.

Thanks Steve. Interesting to hear work has started at last. It seems to have been years and years in the making.
What's the bet soon all those businesses and houses that have built near the airport in recent years will strat protesting against the extra air traffic!
