That's where they were considering building Auckland's airport in 1929. This report is from the 13th of September 1929, in the Auckland Weekly News. Sounds like a good cheap proposal, but did anything come of it?

Nothing eventuated, of course, but the proposal resurfaced in the early 1960s. Waitemata Aero Club was established to own and operate an airstrip at what sounds to be the same place, at the end of Rosebank Road. Auckland AC sponsored their formation, on the grounds that an aero club based in the western suburbs was no threat to them. Waitemata commenced operations at Ardmore (based at the Airwork hangar) as an interim measure until the field could be developed. However town planning, conservation and airspace problems finally scuttled the whole idea. Waitemata continued to operate at Ardmore, eventually becoming quite a sizeable operation until escalating ground rents prompted a merger between the Auckland and Waitemata clubs.
