On National Radio this afternoon there was news of two terminals to be built maybe.
Paraparaumu is a definate, it'll be 200 meters in length and incorporate both terminal space in the centre and hanhgarage on the outer-ends, and the current design is for the building to look like a huge aircraft wing. The owner of the airport also stated that previous worry the airport may become a housing development is gone, and they're expanding to have two runways operating and the new terminal, so all good news.
From Wanaka, airport manager Tim Johnson stated that the decision was being made today by Queenstown Regional Council as to whether they accept a $1.2million proposal to build a new terminal. The airport does not have its own terminal at present and the current operators including Air New Zealand make do with Southern Scenic's premises.
Johnson stated the idea is for a basic tin shed type hangar to keep costs down, but it would be insulated, have lots of glazing added and a few iconic architectural additions to make it not look so much like a hangar.
he reckons the airport has 500 passengers a day pass through on average yet no facilities for them. This is a good move I think.
Good luck to both projects.
