Maybe the CAA need to do something about this, if they feel that the airspace in the vicinity is too busy?

Close encounters common in area where pilots died 27 November 2006.
Close encounters were common in the area near Palmerston North where two planes collided killing both pilots earlier this year, the Civil Aviation Authority says.
Two Massey University School of Aviation students were carrying out an exercise in February as a part of tests for their commercial pilot licences when their planes collided.
Brandon James Gedge, 20, of Tauranga, and Dae Jin Hwang, 27, of West Auckland were found dead in their cockpits after their single-engine Piper Cherokee trainers crashed on to farmland.
Since the accident there had been reports of close encounters in the same area, which highlighted the intensive activity and the fact that aircraft operate on different radio frequencies, the CAA reported in the November/December issue of its magazine Vector.
In its investigation into the accident in February the CAA concluded blindspots and sunlight were the cause.
Because the planes collided at an altitude of 472m and it would have been impossible for either pilot to survive.
The planes were airworthy and the pilots had appropriate experience, the CAA said.
The School of Aviation implemented new procedures after the accident to ensure the flight authorisation book now reflected the anticipated training area to be used by each flying school aircraft; and there were formal briefings between instructors and the duty instructor to limit the number of Massey school aircraft in each training area.

This is the same area that the Govt wants to move all the remaining RNZAF aircraft into - lets add some low flying Herks into the mix - may the best man win......

I was once flying a Manawatu Aero Club Traumahawk (plastic hatchet, Tomahawk) in that designated training area area doing steep turns, pfls etc as you do, and I came out of a steep turn face to face with an Air NZ F-27 that had wandered into the training area.
