The neat little homebuilt helicopter, the turbine powered Eagle R&D Helicycle ZK-HJU, crashed today south of Auckland.
The aircraft carries one person only, and the pilot, in his 60's, managed to get the helicopter down after it began vibrating and seems to have lost its tail rotor by the pictures. The pilot was uninjured, but the chopper's not in great condition.
What a shame, it was one of my favourite homebuilts seen at Tauranga's airshow earlier this year.
