I see that ANZ, without too much fanfare, has quietly doubled its order for the 787-9 Dreamliner to eight. They got a sizeable discount apparently for being the launch customer, which raises the question: has ANZ ever been the first user of a type before?

I dont think Air NZ has ever been a launch customer, however it was an early Solent user, and NAC was an early Heron and Viscount export customer.
