I've never seen a picture of Milford airport before, but it looks like an interesting place to land at! Any members of the forum landed there? www.airliners.net/open.file/1164992/L/At least it wasn't raining when the photo was taken.

The VFR special procedures for Milford in the AIP vol 4 are are real interesting exercise, not only is the strip in an awkward location but the volume of traffic at peak times requires a great deal of care (a mid-air collision occurred in the late 1980s) a special breifing is required before going in there. When I tour the south Island in my homebuilt (once it is finished and tested) I will probably NOT be flying to Milford - I dont mind taking a commercial flight in there, but it is quite a drama for a one-off exercise. In reality, it probably isnt too intimidating, but the workload is so high I would not appreciate the awesome scenery to its fullest.

VVent in there on our honeymoon in 1975. Cessna 185 from Queenstown. Very scenic, but an 'interesting' trip in a single as very few places to put down if the engine failed. Before leaving Queenstown, some American tourists refused to travel on the 185, and insisted on the operator's BN Islander instead. Think they had been forewarned.

Thanks guys.
I looked at the photo and thought flying into Milford might be an experience and a half, but not being an aeroplane driver I wasn't really sure.
