Did anyone else catch the piece of Close Up tonight about the parachutist who's chute didn't open properly, and he filmed his own rapid decent, as did his mate. He landed in scrub and miraculously survived.
Where was that? I didn't catch the beginning. Also how long ago? They said it's still under investigation.
Close Up has improved a lot since Susan Wood retired I reckon.

Taupo Dave. I think there was some blackberries there too, but they broke the fall and he rolled over as he hit them. Very lucky indeed as he was very close to a tree log where he came down. There was quite an impression left in the ground where he finally came to rest. tvnz.co.nz/view/page/497100/984140Video is not available it says? Perhaps the video he took and his companions video is part of the investigation or he has sold it? Colin

Pretty freaky video the last bit before he hit the ground was way too scary. I was very impressed at the way his mate chose to land in the blackberry as well to come to his aid - great skills and dedication. I was very surprised how lucid he was while waiting for the paramedics as he was asking about his chute etc. a very lucky guy, but also ver professional. He certainly kept his cool whilst trying to resolve the problem and decide whether to pop the reserve while the main was still attached. I have to say though that jumping out of perfectly good aeroplanes is well down my list of fun things to do!

Spooky watching it - took me back to the TU chutes we used years ago.
