China-NZ airline agreement signed China and New Zealand have signed a new airline code-sharing agreement. The agreement follows a meeting between Transport Minister Annette King and the Minister of the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC), Yang Yuanyuan. Code-sharing is a practice whereby two or more airlines to offer tickets which combine flights on their respective routes. Ms King says that the agreement is part of the ongoing expansion of ties between New Zealand and China. "In the year to March, New Zealand received 114,000 visitor arrivals from China, 26 percent growth on 2006. This growth is extremely positive for tourism, business and people-to-people contacts and I want to see it continue," Ms King says. Air New Zealand launched a direct Auckland-Shanghai services in November 2006 and says it plans to increase the service from three services a week to five services a week from November 2007.
