It was flying all day today - at one point I was sitting behind it at the runway 21 holding point. Felt a bit insignificant in our Tomahawk!

Just happened to be in the right place at the right time today. Stopped in at Ardmore for a bit to eat in the cafe, when I spied a 2 ship formation downwind. Recognised the Harvard, but couldn't ID the other one.... until it went past the cafe landing.... Also got a quick video of it taxiing for departure (wasn't quick enough to grab the cellphone before Richard started it up)... and also got footage of it departing (quite a sight) but you wouldn't believe it... I deleted it when trying to view it!! Bloody amateur!!!

With that engine and propeller combo on that airframe it's easy to see why it gets off the runway in about a hundred feet!

Just a heads-up, I've heard on pretty reliable authority that a Russian helicopter is going to be arriving at Ardmore sometime on Saturday for maintenance work. It might possibly be one of the Mils from Taupo, but I'm under the impression that it could also be a Kamov KA-32 or similar, something not normally seen in NZ. Might be of interest for photography? Pit stop for chopper Fri, 4 Mar 2011 This Kamov KA-32 helicopter is taking up residence at Dunedin International Airport until early next month, having flown off a Korean icebreaker research vessel last week. I got a couple of photos, unfortunately from the "wrong" side of the airfield as far as lighting is concerned.
