Hi I caught this beautiful Cessna 404 N6764D yesterday while it was doing circuits. Looks almost big enough to start a regional airline? No offence intended but it is a beauty. Colin

Very nice, Colin.
Do you know whether that is a visiting aircraft, or a recent import into NZ?

Thanks Craig.
I have heard it will go on the NZ register at some time in the future. Time will tell I guess.

Imagine having that as your own personal transport, Colin: plenty of room for extra lenses, memory cards and a tripod or two! ;D
Make getting to airshows easier too!

Nice photo of the 404 Colin. There was a 404 that was ferried to NZ months ago from Tahiti (I think from memory) and was having work done on it, unsure if it was this one or not. What is the last small aircraft with the retractable gear?

I was at the Avspecs hangar a couple of weeks ago and I heard someone say "look a flying canopy" it made ma laugh. It really did look like a canopy with wings taxing toward us.

The Sting is one of the new generation high performance Microlights coming out of Eastern Europe. Although the canopy does look a little out of proportion, it does mean there is plenty of room inside and excellent visibility. I have had quite a good look at the Stings at various SAA fly - Ins and I'm quite impressed. The finish quality is quite exceptional - they are made by a company that has previously produced high performance sailplanes. The Sting is all Carbon fibre, and is powered by A Rotax 914 (90hp) with a constant speed prop. It cruises at 120+ knots and is equipped with an emergency recovery parachute. great little aeroplane!

You are right Bruce. Quite a cool wee plane. Advances in technology have enabled some companys to produce some amazing little 'pocket rockets' that are probably more affordable for the average guy to buy and enjoy.

Some more photos from Ardmore recently. Can anybody tell me why Police helicopter has no NZCAA reg on side or am I not supposed to ask? Got a bit carried away with this one so there are 3 pics! Ah some sheep on the hill in the back ground for our Aussie friends ( note the ever so green grass on this side of the ditch) ;D And this beauty used to be in the Australian Army A14-693 (still with some original paint and reg?) Nice shots Colin - and no you didn't get carried away with the 500E photos. There is no such thing as too many photos of that lovely machine. The only chopper that looks nicer, IMHO, is the 520N.

Can anybody tell me why Police helicopter has no NZCAA reg on side or am I not supposed to ask? I've often thought about that one too, they have been like that since way back. After all, police cars carry ordinary number plates, and the only vehicle legally allowed on the road without a number plate is the car used by the GG/QEII. Even more interestingly, the police helicopters are owned by and leased from a private company! Nice pics, by the way Colin.

But aircraft can get a special dispensation so they don't have to wear registration codes - such as warbirds in original schemes.

As far as I can work out, 'Police 1' is ZK-HKG/2 and 'Police 2' is ZK-HDG/2.
