Does anyone have a photo or photos of the ex-RNZAF Lockheed Hudson used by Union Airways after the war?
Or their Lodestars for that matter?

The one-and-only NZ civil Hudson, ZK-AHY. Lasted from August 1945 to December 1946, then back to the RNZAF as NZ2079. To Asplin as scrap May 1949. There were 12 Union Airways Lodestars, which particular one/s did you want?

Thanks Peter, a nice shot of it. That satisfies my curiosity. I had wondered if it was highly polished and had red trim like their other aircraft.
I'm not after any particular Lodestars, just curious to see any interesting shots, that's all. Thanks for the link Craig.

Dave, that link is of NAC aircraft though, isn't it? I didn't realise that probably was the case until after I posted the link. Still a nice photo though!

Ah yes, well they probably are in the same scheme though I'd think?

Most Lodestar pics show them in NAC markings. It's a bit hard to tell the difference in some pictures, as Union were of the minimalistic signwriting school. The following are definitely during the UAL ownership: ZK-AHU at Mangere: ZK-AHU on takeoff at Rongotai: ZK-AHX probably at Mangere: ZK-AHU was the one that crashed on an unauthorized night t/off Mangere 13May45, when a UAL apprentice ground engineer attempted to fly it to Australia! Just as an aside - and I'm not complaining - it takes about 25 minutes to scan each of these old photographs, crop the image, despeckle and adjust the density of the image, repair any defects and save it in a suitably sized jpg format. So there is a considerable amount of work involved, as against a modern digital image. Over time ( a long time, I think) I will be able to get the whole collection stored this way.

Doing a great job Peter, the photos all look very crisp as if they were taken yesterday.
