Air NZ to offer in-flight travel gurus Dec 11, 2007 4:33 PM
In a world first, Air New Zealand is introducing an in-flight concierge service on its long haul international flights.
The airline says that it will offer travellers a travel advisor and destination expert all in one.
Air New Zealand spokesman Ed Sims says they will be able to recommend must do Kiwi activities, assist with onward bookings and support customers affected by weather disruptions.
They will also advise passengers on how to manage their air points and will be able to talk through in-flight wine selections.
Sims says the role has arisen from a significant growth in the number of people choosing the airline for long haul flights.
"A number of cabin crew have told us that it's increasingly difficult for them to spend as much time as they'd like with each customer due to our full cabins," he says.
He says the new role will ensure that everyone travelling with Air New Zealand - no matter how full the aircraft - receives personal attention.
The move has been welcomed by Tourism Minister Damien O'Connor who said the new service is innovative and will "enhance the value of a New Zealand holiday experience for visitors and the tourism industry".
The airline will employ up to 90 concierge staff.
The new service will be launched from April next year and the first international services to have concierges on board are expected to be those between Auckland and Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and Hong Kong. tvnz.co.nz/view/page/536641/1499646

A great initiative, and one service that many people will no doubt use. Good work Air NZ.
