A student pilot preparing for the real thing unwittingly sparked an emergency call out in Balclutha today.
Police siad the student accidentally had a finger on the radio microphone button when he was practicing making a mayday call. The call was broadcast, sparking a full alert at Balclutha Aero Club.
"Everyone had responded .... it just goes to show the system is working,'' a police spokesman said.
"We've got a very red-faced student.''

I hope he wasn't asking how to get an oil stain out of a wedding dress, or reporting a fight between two hedgehogs on the grass at Balclutha airfield! ;D

I was flying the Tiger this afternoon and heard the call, shortly followed by another transmission saying "simulated forced landing" so sort of put two and two together and thought it was a student with finger trouble but good to here there are people listening and reacting appropriately.
