I found these on the RNZAF website and thought they may be of interest to you all. Air Force Museum Open Days, Wigram, Christchurch, 25/26 Mar 2006
Ohakea Open Day, Ohakea, 8 Apr 2006I'd certainly like to be there for both those shows, so I am now planning my 'NZ Invasion' for 2006! I really want to see the Red Checkers do the "Spaghetti Break". See you there?

Good thinking, Sean. Since we won't be allowed to have the beers on the airfield, but I'm sure we can pile on down to the 'Sad Bastard's Bar' at the Bush Inn afterwards! ;D

Spectacular Red Checkers shots Alex!! That new manouvre (Spagetti Break?) looks very dangerous, but then it's never quite as dangerous as it looks.
The photo of the CT-4E on the ground with the smoke behind is stunning, I love it.
I love the Flymo too!

Where there's a will there's a way (butthe 'Sad Bastards' bar will do). Saw the RCs do the SB finish at Wigram early this year. It replaced their usual fan break finish and for the first time in a few displays I have seen from them you heard the crowd gasp on the finish. Fan-bloody-tastic!!

Despite living in Christchurch for 2 and a 1/2 years I never went into the Bush Inn. I passed it many times. Now I wish i had, having learned it used to be the Officers Mess for RNZAF Station Wigram in the early 1930's, before No. 1 O's Mess was built. Many a famous name in RNZAF history both lived there and passed through there.
The pub remained important during the war, most passing out courses for Wigram flyers seemed to have their bashes there from what I gather. In the RNZAF Museum is a couple of huge sheets of paper with a huge amount of signatures from these new pilots, many famous names later. It used to be in the Bush Inn during the war, where known pilots passing through also signed it. It's in a case just as you pass from the bright Atrium into the darker dispaly case area, on the right hand entranceway to the dark area. Well worth a look!

Anyone got any info on what sort of Warbirds/civilian participation (if any) there will be at the Ohakea show? May be the only one I get to this season!
