Wonderful. I am SOOOO glad i decided to throw caution to the wind and make the trip down this year. I've never seen two Mustangs flying together, nor more than one P-40 at a time. Nor a Yak 3 at all. And I haven't seen the hurricane fly either. With these and many other things (F-111's) this will be a show of firsts for me. Yey!
We must arrange a place/time for forum members to meet and greet. Any ideas? It's been so long since i went to a Wanaka show i don't know where everything will be, so if someone with more of an idea of the layout can suggest a place. I think a first meeting on the friday would be great.

One option could be the bar (museum) at night. And one more.

There's a bar in the museum? That's a good idea.

I was just thinking about the fact that some previous Wanaka airshows have had special themes, such as 1994 being D-Day themed with everything painted in stripes, and another more recent one (1998?) was Russian themed (lots of Polikarpovs, Yak, Russian marked Catalina, etc.)
Is anyone aware whether there is a special theme this year?
The thought occurred to me that as this year is the Year of the Veteran in New Zealand, I sincerely hope that this is being recognised and there will be RNZAF markings on the Corsair, at least one P-40, the Catalina etc.
I know the Mustang from Ardmore is in a NZ scheme already, but it'd be nice if the Huricane wore temporary 487 or 488 Sqn codes, or those of a Kiwi ace, etc. Cobber Kain's aircraft would be an easy one to replicate as it was from the same squadron. And 485 Sqn markings on the Spitfire would be great too. OU-P ain't that different to FU-P really in terms of temporary markings.
This is merely my musings off the top of my head. If there is a different theme planned then fair enough, but does anyone know what it'll be? This year's poster gives no clues.
Also, is it known if there will be any publically recognised special guests of honour? (other than the international aerobatic pilots) In the past they've had heroes like Buzz Aldrin, Johnny Johnson and many Kiwi aces as special guests of honour. Who'll be there this year? Anyone know?

I don't believe there is a particular theme. As for special guests, the only I know of is the RAAF F-111....
