Alex Mitchell has suggested a meet up in the bar within the NZFPM museum on the Friday evening (14th April).
I'll be there. Is anyone else keen to join us?
You're all welcome.

Meeting sounds good, what time?
I'm there all three days with my two sons so anytime outside the flying displays should be workable.

As I don't know what everyone looks like, I'll probably head to the bar as soon as the Friday flying stops, or soon after. So, if you see me, come over for a chat and a beer.
This is me. Edit - photo removed

I arrived at Wanaka this afternoon following two happy days in Christchurch.
Despite what the TV and National Radio weather forecasters reckoned (!!) the weather in both Chch and all the way to Wanaka today has been glorious, not showers at all. I should know as I was in a tent last night.
As we approached Luggate the black tailed Orion was doing LOW flypasts down the valley and over the airport. There was much activity at the drome with aircraft and people everywhere. Lined up I spotted a Corsair, P-51-D, several Nanchangs, Lockheed 12, LA-9, Sopwith Camel and lots more. We came straight into town though as it was a bus, and since I've watched the Catalina and several Harvards over the lake. Magic.
Sad news is, the rumours are true, it's confirmed in the local newspaper I just picked up. This is the last Warbirds Over Wanaka to be run by Sir Tim's company.
In future there will be a community group running the airshows and Alpine is dropping out. Thanks for all the shows in the past AFC, especially the handful I have managed to attend (1992, 1993 and now).
Probably add more tomorrow if not drunk in a hangar somewhere after the practice day. Otherwise you'll have to wait.
Oh and Turbo, I discovered today there's a Doughboys at Tekapo too, but I don't know if they do fish and chips like Twizel, awesome bakery though.
Cheers all Dave

No worries Simon, at least we did meet up a few times. Not many turned up to that first arranged meet anyway, which turned out to be in the Gold Pass enclosure after hours. I caught up with Alex Mitchell and Alan Udy (of Omaka fame), plus a few others including Damon Edwards.
On the Saturday evening after the nice meal in the Gold Pass unclosure with Damon, and where I also caught up with member Dave Lochaed of Kiwi Resins, Damon and I went into town and caught up with John Parker (Setter) and Peter Arnold (the Spitfire Pope as they call him) and their wives. I'm told Glenn Alderton was also there but I didn't get a chance to meet him sadly. Also, I looked out for Chris Cattermole (TurboNZ) and his wife but didn't see him. Were you there Chris??? I'm realy sorry we missed each other.
I was surprised just how many forum members from this forum and others I did catch up with, I met several others too, including Dave Macdonald of Classic Wings magazine. Great to meet all of you guys.
Oh and Simon, hell yeah, now that's a quick ride!

Hi all! Well, end of en era.The AFC shutting up shop and selling the Spitfire. Not good news for the start of the WOW 06.
Great to meet up with fellow forum members.Dave, really glad to meet you and help with accom. and wheels during the airshow days. We'll show those parking guys a thing or two!!
Great to meet Setter and Mark12 as well. Pitty they did not stay around longer at the pub. Nice to have some time out at the Gold Pass enclosure on the Saturday night.A warm atmosphere and a nice beer with great company.
It was fantastic to be on the 'other side of the fence' helping out the WW1 guys ,the Dr1 ,Camel and Nieuport. Also crewing on Ray Hanna's P-40 piloted by John Lanham. John being very lucky as well by getting to sample Tim's Spitfire before going to Oz(Damn!!) on the easter monday.
Simon ,nice to see the Thunder Mustang at Wanaka. Also saw the display at Tauranga a few weeks before, what a rocket!!

We were definitely there...
I looked out for you too, Dave,..unfortunately didn't see you.
However, I did get to meet Russ and Glenn (Alderton) of Warbirdz forum which was great.
Would have been awesome to meet more people from here, but alas will have to be the next big NZ airshow, ie Classic Fighters, or Wings Over Wairapapa ??

Sorry we missed you Chris!
Damon and I didn't get there till about 8.30 as we'd been at the bar in the Gold Pass enclosure having dinner. We were sat at a couple of tables near the door, on the right s you went out.
Everyone I met said Classic Fighters was the show to see, so I might have to go along next time.

That sounds like a good idea to me, Omaka has become a 'must' for me. I'm not that sure I want to go to Avalon, although I have enough Frequent Flyer points to get there free! I also quite enjoy the occasional visit to Australia, though they speak funny!Avalon has some really good moments, but the organistion wasn't great the last time I was there and there were gaps. It has its moments however, and one of them is the Friday "Night Airshow" which includes the now-familiar F111 burn off, which looks even more spectacular at night. The Constellation take-off is also spectacular with so much blue flame from the exhausts, and a superb sound. There are also aircraft you will never see again in NZ. such as the Meteor and the Canberra from the Temora collection. and next year perhaps, an Avon powered Sabre. Meanwhile, I'm off to Sydney-Heathrow-St Petersburg-Prague-Paris on Monday, and won't be back until the 2nd June.
