Hi guys, I just got back from a couple of days in New Plymouth, doing various museum stuff (not all aviation) and tramping in the Egmont National park. On my way home I stopped off at the airport (like you do....) and I noticed outside the Paul Muller Aircraft Services Hangar an Aero Delphin Jet with what looked like a NZ style rego (3 letters) for those unfamiliar with the type it is a Chezchoslovakian jet trainer, a predecesor of the L39 Albatross. I wouldnt mind betting that Brett Emeny (owner of a Vampire T11) has something to do with it - does anyone have any info? Unfortunately I dont have pictures as I left the camera switched on when I was tramping and ran the batteries out (duh!!!) I also found TATTM (Taranaki Aviation, Transport and Technology Museum) open on Friday when I was coming back from tramping, which is unusual as it normally only opens Sundays and public holidays - but the one guy on duty was repainting the office building! This is a great little museum with some interesting aviation stuff, including items from Mt Egmont crash sites. I found out a lot about a local eccentric named Edgar Brewster who designed and built some radical aircraft concepts before he died in the 1970s. I'll post this stuff for comment later. In the meantime, what do we know about the Delphin?

Dont know about Delphin L-29 jet but there is an L-39 at New Plymouth. Havnt heard anything about one here in NZ and nothing was mentioned by any of the guys with the a/c from there over Warbirds weekend. There was someone trying to import one from South Africa not that long ago to begin a syndicate but didnt here of any follow up to that.

It definitely was an L29 - looked far uglier than the L39! the colour scheme was really patchy but did have some faded Dayglo - sort of like the old SAAF Harvards. I couldnt get close to have a good look due to security fencing, and there didnt appear to be anyone around to ask about the Delphin.
