Nice pics,....I promise I'll photobucket some more when I get home and post them here. I've got one or two good ones still to come.

..and the F111 at Ohakea..... i36.photobucket.com/albums/e33/Shadblat/F111Capsule.jpgThis aircraft was taking off at Ohakea on a verywet day, and ingested a lot of water. The pilot decided he wasn't going to stop in time, so ejected. The aircraft ran off the ramp at 09 and eneded up in the first paddock, the capsule came down very close to the aircraft, and the seconf photo shows the crash crew helping the aircrew out.Neither were hurt.

From what I hear, Avalon isn't that great. And that came from an Aussie. I reckon Omaka might be the go next year.

It depends what you're into. It isn't the greatest warbirds show, but if you're after more exotic heavy metal and operational fast jets its the closest game in town. Maybe from an Australian perspective it isn't the best available and it probably isn't, but from here its a good way to see stuff you just won't see in NZ. I went in 03 and thought it worthwhile. After not making any shows this season, I'm looking forward to early 07 with Omaka, Wings over Wairarapa, shows I can easily get to and Avalon to get to with a bit of planning. I haven't fully commited to it yet but I am giving it serious thought, given how cheap a three or four day hop across the ditch is getting.

Fair enough. It'd certainly not cost any more than three days at Wanaka I don't think.

I really enjoyed my first excursion to Avalon last year, even though quite a few people pointed out that the aircraft/equipment displaying were the same as at the 2003 show. Yeah, certainly the warbirds participation is less (because the organisers won't supply the fuel: they expect the warbird owners to come along for nothing but the 'kudos' of appearing at Avalon - hopefully that'll change though!) I don't get to see fast jets like the F-15 and F-16 everyday, and that's the main reason why I went along last year. Mind you, seeing the RNZAF B757 in action was certainly a real eye-opener too. Another plane I'd never really taken much notice of until Avalon was the Super Constellation, but I love Connie now! Anyway, roll on Avalon 2007.
