I have realised that I have a flippin family gathering on the same day so won't be coming up to Ardmore sorry to say. I look forward to the photos here though.

Ardmore will be closed to other traffic for 1 hour for the display. Interestingly, there is no notification of this in the current AIP supplements. Presumably it will be notam'd on the day. From my recollection of a verbal discussion with one of the organisers last weekend it will be 2 - 3pm. (It had better be no later, as I am under matrimonial instructions to get away and be back at Whenuapai no later than 4.30 to prepare for her do that evening!).

The lads might have to work quickly on TAF to get her sorted for the weekend, radiator and oil cooler out indicates a fair bit of time......

I have just seen in the local paper that the event kicks off 11am and ends at 4pm, entry is free. the warbirds depart about 10.45am for the flypast and will return about 11.30am, and there will be a 5 ship display by the harvard team. (will try to post a scan tommorow night)

Weather was not great with lots of cloud and a heavy shower when I arrived however it improved later in the afternoon. Both TAF and TMG took part so that was great. A short video of TMG start up and some of display please excuse my shaky tracking as it is very fast and small to try and lock onto.

Still sorting through my feeble attempts at photography with a point'n'click camera to find something worthy of posting but in the meantime - did anybody else notice these very obedient aircraft near the taxiway?

Nice catch Stu. I saw them but didn't get a shot like that. Look forward to seeing more of your shots.
Cheers, Colin

Spent a nice early arvo out there, good that the rain held off. Nice to see (nearly) all the warbirds out and about. Could have done with a low pass or two though. What is the story behind this Catalina behind one of the hangars out there? Has some faded Mainfreight writing on it, but those were the only markings I could make out. Sorry about the enormous pic, tried re-sizing in photobucket but no dice.

To the best of my knowledge it was bought by the Catalina club (around 2000?) as a source of spares for ZK-PBY.
Cheers, Stu.

The afternoon display was great! Brian Gault in the Thunder Mustang started with a high sped downwind run down the display line and followed up with one of the best aerobatic displays I've seen. I will never forget seeing TMG scream down the runway! P51D TAF followed with another high speed low level pass (and I mean LOW!), and another great display. That Merlin still sends shivers down my back. Then the Harvard 5-ship display finished the display, very impressive, noisy, and a tribute to the hard work the team has put into polishing their show.
I thought the ground displays were good too, it is rare these days to be able to walk amongst the display aircraft. Although I'm not a keen photographer myself, I imagine this was a heaven-sent opportunity for those who are. Unfortunately the Lifeflight Metro was called out to a road accident in Tauranga and had to leave early, but the meths/water takeoff was awesome!
A great day I thought, and it was nice not to be working!

A great day I thought, and it was nice not to be working! To add insult to injury, it was typically a very quiet weekend shift with nothing happening for us studio bods until around 16:45 and then a very straightforward news (don't always have time to lean back with my feet on the desk and play with my camera while live to air) - could have hung around at Ardmore long enough to watch the display Of course, if I had stayed then Murphy's Law would dictate that all hell would break loose at work. You're right, TAF was low! Great shot Kereru. Cheers, Stu.

What's with the young chap standing beside the taxiway with live aircraft movements? No shoes even.... a spider or a snake could have bitten him.
You woudn't be pulling our legs with Mustang shot, Kereru? I mean a few minutes with Photoshop would have removed the pole!!!!! Kidding, of course. great shot.

Wasn't TV3's Clint out misbehaving that day??? Have to check the local papers for that one or ask somebody at TVNZ .... that's how we normally find out what's going on, including Clint's recent "adventures" (read about that in the newspaper before anybody officially mentioned it at work) Back to my favourite subject, aviation, and in response to your query Peter. The young shoeless chap beside the taxiway - one of many spectators, with or without footwear, being suitably corralled by marshalls - illustrates one of the advantages NZ has over Australia (we're allowed at least one aren't we?), all our venomous snakes are confined to Parliament ;D Anyhow, a couple more photos from the day .....

It's probably the same kid with the bike from Tyabb airshow, Peter. The Mustang low level shot reminded me of a pic I took of a Spitfire on a pole in Christchurch when I was on my honeymoon during the 70's. Is it still around?
