Many aircraft on static display as well as restoration projects. You will be able to sit in the aircraft and chat with the pilots. Harvard formation team will display along with two other aircraft.
I will post more info as soon as I have it:

A few more Warbird related events here - www.nzwarbirds.org.nz/events.htmlSimon, can you shed any more light on the event over Auckland harbour on Jan 28 - 29 next year? Visions of the Twinings Iced Sky Show of many years ago spring to mind. Cheers, Stu.

Thanks Stu. I've made some additions to the calendar.
I have a few queries about the list:
Is that the correct date for Cambridge's Armistace Day? The main commemoration with parades and flyover are usually held on Remembrance Sunday - whether or not it falls on the 11th. This year the 11th is a Saturday. I just wondered have they moved the whole event to a Saturday or are the Warbirds booked for the Sunday and the date is wrong? I hope it's still the Sunday as more people will come and they have the Victory dance and other events on the Saturday. By the way, it's definately worth comign along if anyone is considering it. A great weekend all in all.
Without checking I guess the 29th of Jan is Auckland Anniversary day, as it's a Monday?
And I guess at SportAvex the actual airshow is on the 6th, Tuesday, which is Waitangi Day? This year's airshow was on the last day of the event anyway.
I'm really pleased to see that the 70th Anniversary of the RNZAF is being marked properly with a two day airshow. I will definately try to get to at least one day. I wonder if anything from overseas will be invited. I really hope so.
Finally, do you know which Warbirds have been selected/booked for the Cambridge event? Will it be the Harvards again? The Catalina again? Mustang? Or something new? Any ideas? Either way it's always a great show but I think the best year was when the Mustang came down. As it flew very low over the town the Merlin's beautyful sound reverberated through the trees on the town square, and it was shere magic. Cambridge probably hadn't had a flyover like that since the war. If the Warbirds are still deciding what to send, a Kittyhawk would be nice... I know, they're all down at Wanaka now, but...

I notice that again there is no Ardmore airshow listed on the calendar for 2007. It's a shame as the 2003 one was great, and from the news the 2004 event must have been one of the biggest public events Auckland has seen. It's definately popular. Is this lack of airshow simply because no-one has time to organise it? Or have those whinging NIMBY neighbours won ou and you're not allowed to??

Um, the SAA Fly In at Ashburton is called "Great Plains" rather than SportAvex, The dates are right though. (SportAvex is generally the northern Sport Aviation Expo - held on even numbered years - Alternating with Great Plains on odd years) I understand that 2007 will have additional classic aircraft / Warbirds from previous Ashburton fly - Ins, as the Ashburton aviation Museum are helping with organisation. In the past there hasnt been an airshow, but that may be different this time around.
some interesting events coming up though....

Hi Dave and Bruce,
I'll try and find out more details for you. If I do, I'll post them on the forum. The Auckland harbour thing is on Auckland Anniversary day/weekend - the other dates are as I recieved them.
Thanks for the info on the Ashburton event Bruce, I'll change the SportAvex to Great Plains on the Warbirds website.
Cheers, Stu.

The fly in covers the whole waitangi weekend, but I have heard nothing about the actual programme, or even whether or not an airshow is involved. I would say that it wouldnt be a full airshow anyway, Great plains is normally a low key event with the main airshow at SportAvex on the other years. The SAA web page needs a fairly serious update, the webmaster has been pretty tied up with other commitments recently. Ive offered to give him a hand but havent heard back about it yet. I am planning to be at ashburton though - If you are going to be there, we'll have to meet up.

Thanks for that, would be good to meet up, I dont really mind if its not a full on airshow but I have never been and am keen to get some photos. Can only be away Saturday and Sunday of that weekend so hopefully the saa guys update there website soon. I could possibly stay for Monday but some more info on the best days would be good.

I hear that a visit to the museum at Ashburton alone is well worth the effort.

I have been asked to bring the Airtourer WBW over for this event, apparently they want to display her alongside CLD. Would enjoy meeting up with any of you guys from here on the day.

Hi Dave,
I will be in Reno at the races but Bryan will do a display in Tigers Blood. The Harvard formation team will display along with the P51 if it is ready (new radiator being built) Doug Brooker in his Giles is on standby to fill in.

Awesome, thanks Simon.
Doug Brooker is such a surperb aerobatic pilot, I was hugely impressed with his Tauranga display in February. So if the P-51D Mustang's not flying, he's a great stand-in
Some Reno pics would be cool on the forum too when you get back too if that's ok
