On the National Radio news this morning I heard that a new study has found Warbirds Over Wanaka is now up among the leading tourist attractions in New Zealand.
Apparently the April show this year brought over $50 million to the Central Otago region, with much more in spin-offs as 20% of people who attended were foreign and they usually stayed in NZ for longer, travelled to other destinations and spent an average of $254 each per day!
This is tremendous news that Wanaka has generated such input to the local and national economy, it will hopefully generate more support for the next big show in 2008.
It's interesting that a three day event can beat most permanent attractions.

Hmm part of that 20% are Aucklanders as they are counted as foreigners in the South Island(Main Land) aren't they? All jokes aside that is good news and promising for future shows.
