Some of my pics from the ADF show at the weekend. Not a patch on Planeimages work but I'm happy with them given the prevailing conditions (awful) and my equipment (basic) F-111 take off, Saturday F-111 dump and burn, Sunday Orion take off, Sunday Combined Herk display on the Sunday, J-model overflying the H-model. Hornets taxi past while the Hawk commences its routine, Sunday Hornet formation breaks to commence mock attack, Saturday Hornet turns hard over the hangars at the western end of the flightline, Sunday Solo Hornet display Solo Hornet catches the arresting wire, Sunday

Nice work, Sam.
You jammy bastard - you nailed that No. 2 Hornet's turn dead centre! I love the ectoplasm plume. ;D
I'm pleased you enjoyed your time at the show, and that you managed to get some good shots.

More anticipation than skill really. That's a good shot of the turn in you have there. The Squirrel crossover is excellent as well. Nice selection of images. I was hamstrung a little by being able to manually set either shutter speed or exposure, but not both . Not sure yet if this was camera or operator trouble; it should be able to do both. So I had to choose between blur or darkness in the end, which messed up a lot of my shots in the prevailing gloom.

Great shots Craig and nice to meet you. I like the way you framed some of the images with foreground detail.
Hi Mumbles, sorry I missed you. You sure captured some great action with the F/A 18A pairs.

Thanks Sam and Peter, I managed to get some not too bad shots - but you should have seen some of the shockers I took too! Peter, it was great to meet you too as it's nice to be able to put a face to a name. It was also good to meet Stewart Wilson in person too, and to congratulate him on Aero magazine.

Great photos guys. I find it interesting how much cleaner burning the engines on the new Herk are in the formation photos compared to the older model (let alone the 707). You should let the RNZAF have those pics. so that they can use them as justification for new Herks over here, under Kyoto we might be able to buy them with carbon credits.

It really is amazing to see how much cleaner the C-130J Hercs are in flight. The RAAF had a few teething problems with the J model when it first came into service - which is to be expected - but they are very happy with the aircraft now. The B707 is not only very smokey, but they're damn noisy too! On approach the JT-3 engines emit a very high pitched scream that is quite unpleasant - and I feel really sorry for the residents of Richmond as the town is right under the flightpath of these dinosaurs. The 33SQN personnel I spoke to on the weekend are really looking forward to getting their first A330 aircraft - especially from a maintainence point of view. For example, on Saturday a 707 was flown to Canberra to pick up a load of ADFA cadets who were coming up for the airshow, but the aircraft went u/s at Canberra. A second 707 was then sent to pick the cadets up from Canberra, while the original 707 returned to Richmond later that evening. Bloody spoilt officer cadets: I would have left them in Canberra!

Hi Mumbles, sorry I missed you. You sure captured some great action with the F/A 18A pairs. PF Thanks. Missed Corsair67 as well, Murphy being hard at work on Saturday. Are the 707's ex Qantas? And does their noise restrict operations out of certain airports? The latter was one of the factors in the decision to replace the RNZAF's B727s...

Sam, from what I'm led to believe, all the remaining (4) 707s in RAAF service are ex-QANTAS.

Ahh, love the feet off the Bou's ramp... Reminds me of a funny story.... Low Level Surveillance on a bumpy day somewhere in the NT, I'm flying along and I hear AWWW FU(*&^K screamed over the intercom. Before I can turn around, I know what has happened from the smell. Our Army friend has been sick out the side door of the Bou and it has come around the back and covered the flteng from head to toe! Ohh well only had four hours to go! And another funny one.... See the Pilot name on the FAC PC-9 Well we are in adjacent portaloos in East Timor and I hear a thunk thunk thud.... AWWW SH*&^%T. Mucca had dropped his mobile down the stinky, tropical, hardly ever emptied, loo..... And not an OPTUS shop around! Needless to say it didn't work to well afterward, yes we did get it out....

Andrew, it's good to see that those photos have brought back some good memories! ;D
Any other Caribou stories you can share - that won't ruin careers?
I had a look to see if I'd got any better shots of the Caribou crew, but alas it doesn't appear that I did.
