Is there any intention/interest from people to go to the Avalon show next year?
I've enough FF points on Qantas, so I might give it a whirl.

Colin, I've had my airfare to Melbourne booked since last April, so yep, I'll be there! Anyone else intending on going?

Peter, I would have thought you'd have arranged that ages ago? All the cheap seats will be gone by now! I'm going down on the Wednesday so I can spend some time having a look at Point Cook and Moorabbin. Do you have any other suggestions of places worth seeing while I'm down there?

Diggers Rest, the site of Houdini's flight, recognised as the first satisfactory flight of a powered, heavier than air machine in Australia. Just a plaque in a park. 10 ks or so from Tullamarine.
Museum Victoria has a replica of John Duigan's aircraft, recognised as the first Australian-built a/c to fly. This is disputable as Jack Jones achieved the feat in 1909 but his flights were not long enough to be given full credit.
Puffing Billy in the Dandenongs is lovely. You can travel there by suburban train. A good day's trip.
I must book a flight.
Cheers
Peter

Been giving it some serious thought as I have some ANZ airpoints to use up. I have never been to Avalon so all new to me. I was thinking catch an early flight Friday morning to Melbourne pick up a rental and head for Geelong for some accommodation for 3 nights and should make it to the 2:00 pm start of the public display the same day. I have surfed a bit for accommodation but will need to make a booking soon. Any suggestions or hints would be most welcome of other must see displays/museums in the area?

Geelong would be the word. Point Cook is not far away. It has a Museum. If motels are not available try b&Bs from the tourist centre. Hope to see you there. PF

We ended up at Werribee because there was nothing in Geelong. The Avalon site is warning about accommodation shortages at the time due to other functions going on.

Thank God I have friends at Hoppers Crossing!
You could always stay in Melbourne, which is about an hour away by train. There are special train services run during the airshow from Melb to Lara, with shuttle buses from Lara to Avalon (about 10mins on the bus).

Thanks for the suggestions guys. All booked and looking forward to it. There will be 3 of us going and hopefully we will meet up with others going from this forum on one of the days. Pt Cook not open on Mondays but we will have a look at that on Tuesday as we booked a late flight coming home. See you there.
